The Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) degree with concentration on early childhood special education focuses on issues and best practices in early childhood special education. The program prepares individuals to work with young children with disabilities and their families in inclusive, collaborative, and natural environments. Graduates will be eligible for the State of Florida Endorsements in Pre-Kindergarten Disabilities (Pre-K ESE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).The course of study consists of 30 credits over five terms.

The University of Miami School of Education (UMSOE), in collaboration with the Miller School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Mailman Center for Childhood Development (MCCD), with financial support from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), is implementing a high-quality program entitled, Culturally Responsive Professionals in Early Childhood Disabilities

The CRESPECD
Project will prepare teachers certified in Exceptional Student Education in two cohorts, the first begins in January 2009 and the second cohort will begin August 2010, in the field of early childhood special education. Ninety percent (90%) tuition support is available for qualified applicants.
Students who begin CRESPECD
in January 2009 must commit to taking 2-3 courses for 5 consecutive semesters in order to complete their program in May 2010.
Students who begin CRESPECD
in August 2010 must commit to taking 2-3 courses for 5 consecutive semesters in order to complete their program in December 2011.
Classes meet from 5 to 7:40 PM during the Fall and Spring terms and from 4:20 to 8:05 PM during the Summer terms. The program accommodates working teachers by scheduling the two 30-day practicum experiences in the summers. Some workshops and meetings, but no regularly scheduled class sessions, are held on Fridays.
- Only applicants with Exceptional Student Education (ESE) certification will be considered for admission.
- Only United States citizens or residents are eligible for 90% tuition support;
- There is a service obligation component to the 90% tuition support; graduates of the program who accept the 90% tuition support must agree to teach exceptional students for two years to meet their financial obligation to the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
Financial Assistance
A decision to accept an applicant is separate from a decision to provide that individual with financial assistance. A limited number of scholarships are available at ninety percent (90%) tuition support for qualified applicants to begin in August 2010.
