The purpose of Partners for Young Children with Disabilities (PYCD) is to prepare professionals to effectively serve children with disabilities in preschool settings. The program is designed so as to provide these early childhood professionals with deep knowledge of children’s development from birth through five and with the skills needed to foster optimal development in natural environments and in the context of a family-centered approach to service provision. A unique component of the program is the participation of scholars in a two-semester seminar and accompanying practicum that addresses the competencies now required in the State of Florida for the Infant and Toddler Developmental Specialist credential.

Individuals who complete this project receive Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) with concentration Exceptional Student Education/Prekindergarten Disabilities. In addition, it meets the requirements for eligibility for endorsements in Prekindergarten Disabilities and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Depending on a student’s background, the program ranges from 33 to 39 credits.
