Description
The Support Network Institute is designed to assist and inform beginning or new teachers with three years or less experience.
- Opening and closing of school, procedures.
- Classroom Management – Organization of classroom and materials.
- Professionalism and ethics.
- Certification, employee contracts, and evaluation tools.
- Teachers’ and students’ rights.
- Teachers’ responsibility in reporting child and drug abuse.
- Strategies specific to ESE students including instructional methods in inclusion classes..
- Grading and Testing – District and classroom testing, grading policies, and behavioral and attendance policies.
- Textbooks process, bulletin boards, flexibility of scheduling, and school activities.
- Addressing IEP’s.
- Incorporating FCAT strategies and differentiated instructions in classroom learning and testing.
- Reflection of both the methods and learning environments.
- A growing Network of participants, a strong support system, peer mentor teachers, and an interactive website.
- Develop leadership skills to serve other prospective teachers.
- Empower beginning teachers in the classroom.
Requirements
Open to all UM graduates in their first years of teaching K-12! Or first year teachers in our Miami-Dade or Broward county schools.
Schedule
August 10 - 12, 2009
8:30 am – 3:30 pm
*The Institute will also involve five Saturdays throughout the school year from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. These informal breakfast meetings will include sharing and discussing progress and growth in the classroom. Each session includes professional development topics requested by the participants, along with discussion with mentors and peers, and stress management activities.
