Robert Moore joined the University of Miami faculty in 1975, and focuses on teaching children with learning and behavioral problems. He served as associate dean for the School of Education from 1981 to 1994 and was acting dean for two years. He is currently coordinator, Undergraduate Special Education Program, a resident master at Mahoney Residential College and professor in residence at Bel-Aire Elementary School. In 1999 he was named Professor of the Year by the Panhellenic Council, University of Miami, and is a member of the university’s Iron Arrow honorary society.
Moore earned his Ed.D. in special education at Indiana University, and completed a summer internship in Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, Julia Ann Singer Preschool for Seriously Disturbed Children. He has served as consulting editor for Career Development for Exceptional Individuals
and is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, American Association on Mental Retardation, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He is president of the board of trustees of Bertha Abess Children’s Center, Miami and is a member of the Canterbury Preschool Board of Directors.
Moore has consulted for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Silny and Associates, Virginia State University, Kentucky State University, Southern University, and Milwaukee Public Schools Division of Exceptional Student Education. He was a consultant on Project SEARCH (In Search of an Exemplary Special Education Referral and Decision-Making Process for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students), a research project at the university. He is a member of the Chair Corps of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
