Marjorie Montague, a faculty member since 1987, focuses on learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders.  She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Arizona. 

Dr. Montague has published over 50 articles, chapters, books, and curricular materials.

Dr. Montague serves on the editorial boards of Learning Disabilities Quarterly, Learning Disabilities Research and Practice, and Journal of Learning Disabilities.  She is a former president of the Division for Research, Council for Exceptional Children, and chair of the Special Education Group of the American Educational Research Association.

Dr. Montague has received numerous federal research and training grants.  She currently is principal investigator of  “A Longitudinal Study of Co-Morbidity of Disorders in Children and Adolescents,” funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. 

The Institute of Education Sciences recently awarded Dr. Montague a research grant over $2 million dollars for her Improving Mathematics Performance of At Risk Students and Students with Learning Disabilities in Urban Middle Schools (MSM Project)

The purpose of this project is to test the efficacy of Solve It! (Montague, 2003), an intervention to teach students with learning disabilities how to understand, analyze, solve, and evaluate mathematical problems by developing the processes and strategies that effective problem solvers use.
