John Andrew Gillentine joined the University of Miami faculty in 2002. He earned his Ph.D. in human performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and taught, coached and served as athletic director on the high school level before becoming the Director of the Sports Administration Graduate Program at Mississippi State University. He has also been actively involved with Special Olympics at the state, national and international levels.
Gillentine serves on the editorial executive board, International Journal of Sport Management
, and the editorial board, Sport Marketing Quarterly
. He is a member of the Sport Management Executive Council, Sport Marketing Association, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and served on the Mississippi Governor’s Commission on Physical Fitness & Sport.
Gillentine is the co-author of several articles, including “Job Satisfaction of NATA Certified Athletic Trainers,” International Sports Journal
, and “A Comparison of Student-Athletes and Nonathletes Perceptions of Academic Advisement Services,” Academic Advisement Journal
. His wide-ranging research studies have included “An Investigation of Athletic Event Policies Regarding Displays of Religion and Patriotism,” and “A Comprehensive Approach to Alter High-Risk Drinking Perceptions and Behaviors.”
