Carlos I. Perez Benitez joined the EPS faculty in June, 2009. He was Assistant Professor – Research, at Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island prior to joining the EPS faculty. He obtained his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. He completed his clinical internship at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell University in New York City and his three year post doctoral fellowship at the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. His research interest includes the development of culturally tailored psychocosocial interventions for anxiety disorders and the effect of cultural and ethnic factors in the diagnoses and treatment of mental disorders. He was recently awarded a 5 year National Institute of Health grant to develop an adapted CBT intervention for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder and co-occurring medically unexplained physical symptoms – the CAMPOS project.
