Soyeon Ahn received her Ph.D. in Measurement and Quantitative Methods in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education at Michigan State University in 2008. She joined the EPS faculty in August, 2008. Ahn’s current research focuses on the application of the existing data analytic techniques in resolving the complicated data issues in meta-analysis (research synthesis). She has proposed a method to synthesize the very sparse data structure that mostly arises from the variation in measures such as validity and reliability. Her proposed model was based on the ideas from a model-driven meta-analysis and a latent variable framework. Her other areas of interest include hierarchical linear modeling (HLM), structural equation modeling (SEM), and longitudinal data analysis for educational and psychological research.

In addition to her interest in psychometrics, she is also interested in investigating the causal relationship between teachers’ qualifications and the quality of teaching. Working in the Teacher Qualification and Quality of Teaching (TQ-QT) project for the past five years at Michigan State University, she synthesized a number of studies looking at the relationship between teachers’ subject matter knowledge and student achievement in mathematics. In TQ-QT project, Ahn worked on a simulation study, in which the effect of the study-quality weights on estimating the overall effect-size was examined.
