Joyce Corces joined the University of Miami faculty in 2001, following a 34-year career as a mathematics teacher and department head at Coral Gables and Coral Park Senior High Schools. She was a Presidential Award Mathematic Teacher finalist in State of Florida.
Corces, who earned her Ed.D from the university in 1991, serves as director of the university’s SUPPORT Network for Novice Teachers. She developed the curriculum and the mentoring program for the SUPPORT Network to further the professional development of new teachers. She is also professor in residence for Ponce Middle School.
Corces has taught “Methods of Teaching Math” and “Math for the GED.” She has also been active in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ summer in-service institute, teaching mathematics, and also taught calculator use to elementary schools’ classroom teachers.
She has served on the Southern Association Accreditation Committee as math chairperson for several high schools in Florida. She has been a presenter at state conferences on Professional Development Schools, and at state and national conferences on the SUPPORT Network for new teachers.
