Patrick Walsh joined the Sport Administration faculty in the fall of 2008. He completed his Ph.D. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Management from the University of Minnesota in the spring of 2008, where he also taught a variety of sport management courses. Dr. Walsh received a master’s degree in Sport Administration from Canisius College and bachelor’s of science degrees in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises from Syracuse University.

Dr. Walsh has enjoyed a variety of professional experiences in the sport industry. He was an Associate with Velocity Sports and Entertainment where he worked with a number of the today’s top sponsors of professional and collegiate sport properties such as the NFL, NASCAR, the PGA Tour and the Bowl Championship Series. His duties included the development and execution of strategic plans, branding strategies, national promotions, special events, and the negotiation of sponsorship and media deals for clients such as FedEx, The Home Depot and Verizon. In addition, Dr. Walsh was the Catalog/Internet Coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, in charge of managing the team’s online pro shop.

Dr. Walsh’s research focuses on the brand management of professional sport teams. Specifically, his research examines brand extensions in sport, the brand associations that consumers hold for sport teams, and how various marketing activities might enhance or dilute the brand equity of professional sport teams. In addition, he is interested in researching the impact that new mediums such as sport video gaming and fantasy sports are having on the sport industry. Dr. Walsh’s research has been published in such journals as Sport Marketing Quarterly, the International Journal of Sport Management and the International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing.
