Henry Giroux

Henry Giroux is the Waterbury Chair of Secondary education at Pennsylvania State University. Born September 18, 1943, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of French Canadian working class immigrants. Giroux taught high school history in Barrington, Rhode Island from 1968 to 1975. He received his doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 1977. From 1977 to 1983 he was a Professor of Education at Boston University. In 1983 he became Professor of Education and renowned scholar in residence at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He also served as Director at the Center for Education and Cultural Studies at Miami University. He left Miami in 199? to take up his current position.

Together with figures like Peter McLaren, Joe Kincheloe and Shirely Steinberg, Giroux is at the forefront of integrating Cultural Studies into to the study of Education.
