The Georgia Negro Exhibit included an album of photographs taken by an anonymous studio photographer that portrayed the physiological diversity of Georgia Blacks. Du Bois's purpose in presenting these photographs was to demonstrate how complex and varied American blacks were in an attempt to overcome racist stereotypes about their mental and physical characteristics. Unfortunately, none of the subjects of the pictures are identified. They do, however, demonstrate the extraordinary diversity that was to be found among the black population living in Georgia at the beginning of the century. |
